Pennock Floral understand how important it is for us as a wholesaler to support our local farms. We want to help our customers as well as the end consumers to be aware of the farm’s essential role within this industry. How can we help to educate and raise a higher awareness?

Local Tri States Farms have acres devoted to the exclusive growing of the state’s finest fresh cut flowers. The fields are in full bloom from mid-May through mid-October. All flowers are cut fresh daily and cooled immediately to ensure the highest quality.

We had an opportunity to capture the beauty of some of the summer flowers from our local farm.

Here some flowers that available now:

Zinnia	This beautiful spring flower is botanically known as Zinnia elegans. Zinnias are a popular summer garden flower that is grown as an annual. These brightly colored flowers make a great addition to summer bouquets and arrangements. Zinnia is available seasonally from early summer to late fall in 10 stem bunches. Bunches are usually short measuring 14″ to 18″ in overall length. Vase life varies from 5 to 7 days depending on bud stage and environmental conditions.
Dahlia	Dahlias are strikingly bright and beautiful flowers. Use for bouquets, centerpieces, and for brightening up any room. Dahlias are available in single or multiple petal types with flowers ranging in size from small 3″ flowers to blossoms of 8″ or more. The multiple petal varieties are what is most commonly used in the floral trade. Dahlia petals wilt from the rear of the flower, slowly working towards the face of the flower. These rear petals can be removed as they expire without dramatically effecting the look of the flower. Vase life is generally 5 days.
Marigold	Marigolds are botanically known as Tagetes. These very popular garden plants are equally as popular as a cut flower. Marigolds have very fragrant flowers and foliage that some designers find to be offensive. This medium mass flower is available seasonally from late summer to early fall in 10 stem bunches. Vase life varies from 5 to 7 days depending on bud stage and environmental conditions. The name Marigold comes from the compression of “Mary’s Gold”, but this name in fact was assumed from another flower, the Calendula, which had been known as Marigold for hundreds of years. Calendulas are still occasionally referred to as ‘Pot Marigolds”.
Calendula	Calendulas are a cross between the gerbera daisy, germini and football mum, making it one unique flower! The perfect pop of color allow this bloom to shine at a baby shower, ladies tea or colorful wedding. Traditionally known for its culinary and medicinal properties, the calendula symbolizes winning grace and means joy.Calendula officinalis is another popular spring flower. They are sometimes referred to as Pot Marigolds or English Marigolds. Of the flower colors mentioned above, yellow is the most commonly available. Calendula is an excellent choice for mixed spring flower bouquets and arrangements. Calendula is considered a small mass flower with a vase life of 5 to 7 days depending on environmental conditions.
Black Eye Susan	Black-Eyed Susan is our wildflower beauty originating in the USA. This beautiful spring flower is botanically known as Rudbeckia hirta. Black Eyed Susan is a popular spring garden flower that is winter hardy in Colorado. These brightly colored flowers make a great addition to spring bouquets and arrangements. Black Eyed Susan is available seasonally from mid summer to late summer in 10 stem bunches. Bunches are usually short measuring 16″ to 20″ in overall length. Vase life varies from 7 to 10 days depending on bud stage and environmental conditions.The flowers are versatile, easy to arrange and care for. Get your hands on some today!
Asclepsia	Asclepsia is botanically known as Asclepias tuberosa. You may also hear it called Indian Paintbrush. Asclepias is native to the eastern regions of North America and can be grown as a perennial in Colorado. Being a member of the Milkweed family… Asclepias is known to bleed white sap. Dipping freshly cut stems in hot water should stop the bleeding. Asclepsia is considered a medium filler flower with a vase life of 3 to 7 days depending on environmental conditions.
Sunflowers	Sunflowers are a member of the Helianthus annuus family. Their name is derived from two Greek words, helios meaning sun, and anthos meaning flower. Sunflowers are one of the most popular flowers in today’s market. Every shop should offer them. Flower head size can vary depending on time of year. Keep Sunflowers thoroughly hydrated at all times. Vase life varies from 7 to 10 days.
